The Pickle Jar
February 5-9
I've missed you guys! Between cataract surgery #2, a couple of dogs with intestinal issues, and water from the 2nd-floor main bathroom finding its way to the family room, it has been a crazy week. I did get to drop by for a bit on Thursday so while I could not play, it was a salve for my pickleball soul. Come Monday - I'm back. I have had reports that Monday, Wednesday, and Friday have been very busy and that by now most folks have figured out the paddle rotation. Let's get this started and blast off for the Pickleverse.
8 or More Waiting To Play: When 8 or more people are waiting to play, to maximize play opportunities, games should be to 9 points and win by one. Rally scoring would be better but I don't know if I am ready to try and teach that just yet. When the game is over all 4 players come off the court and the next 4 go to the vacated court. If you know your paddle is at the front of the line, please be certain to monitor what is happening on the courts. The quicker the turnover, the more playing time everyone gets.
16 Sign Up But 25 Show Up: I know this may be hard to believe, but not everyone subscribes to the Pickle Jar. So be prepared that if you see "X" signed up, it will probably be "X + Y". While signing up via the SignUpGenius is not required to play at drop-in, it does help others plan. If you are a regular at signing up, thank you. Even if you decide that morning at 8 AM to play, please still use the sign-up. Chris S. has shared a very interesting idea with me about creating a web page where you can bookmark it and then just go into access the sign-up without having to search your inbox for the Pickle Jar. More on that as it develops.
Pickleball 101: Oh my! I maxed the session at 16 folks and in less than 12 hours, 11 spots had been reserved. People are hungry for pickleball. As I type this, there is one space remaining. The link to grab that if it is still there, is below.
Pickleball 201: I have a small beta group scheduled for later this month to run the drills I have in mind. If that goes well, I will look to do more small groups and/or expand to a larger group.
C3 Sports: C3 Sports is again running their abbreviated schedule on Friday and the SignUpGenius has been adjusted.
Tip Of The Week: Since I was sidelined I could either do chores around the house or watch pickleball videos. I found one I like which discusses the myths and tips for moving from the baseline, through the transition zone, and up to the NVZ. I wasn't too impressed with the demonstration and explanation of the drills but they had some good stuff before that segment. BTW, I did fix a laundry closet door so I wasn't a total slacker.
OK, enough of the bullet points, here are the SignUpGenius links and I hope to see you on the court soon.
