The Pickle Jar
March 18-22
OK, so those 3 days were pretty awesome! Thursday at Bernel Road Park was flooded with players I heard. For my part, I was enjoying the solitude of riding on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. Over 21 miles, I saw a total of 5 people. With more seasonal weather back in charge it was a busy day at The Centre today with 5 courts up and running in drop-in. Follow me and we will explore the Pickleverse.
Subway: Yep, I'm leading with a note about a sandwich shop. Pickleball is SOOOO big, Subway now has a sub/hero/sandwich called the Pickleball Club. Take a look at the photo below. I thought the sandwich didn't represent pickleball well, although I am not sure how I would construct one of my own. Most likely it would have roast beef to steak. What would be a sandwich that you would align with pickleball?
Pickleball 101: On Tuesday 10 new pickolytes were initiated. Of course, I told them you are a wonderful and welcoming group. If they show up for drop-in, please do what you do best, make them feel welcome, and show them the ropes.
Tyrone Pickleball Club: The Tyrone Pickleball Club will be participating in the St. Patrick's Day parade in downtown Tyrone on Saturday the 16th. They will have a moving pickleball net with players dinking back and forth as they march. If you have a chance drop on down and check it out.
C3 Sports: C3 Sports will be offline on Friday. The sign-up has been adjusted to reflect that.
Snowbirds: While a few have arrived already, the Spring migration of snowbirds will soon begin in earnest. We wish them safe travels and are eager to see them again.
Drop-In Sign-Ups: With the weather now creating options for outdoor play make sure to check the TeamReach app and the SignUpGenious to make sure that the folks that signed up for drop-in when you did on Sunday night didn't bolt for the outdoor courts when the temps rose and wind died down.
Tip Of The Week: Deep serves. As more and more players are hitting regular deep serves seeing the resulting difference in returns is evident. Players who are serving short (just a few feet behind the kitchen line) are regularly seeing crisp, steeply angled cross-court shots that they either can't get or if they do, the rebuttal shot is weak and is at the mercy of the opponent. When you serve, watch your opponent. If you see them having to take even one step back you are off to a good start. If you are playing this week concentrate on getting the serve to land within a few feet of the baseline. If you are waiting to rotate in, grab the bucket of multicolor balls find a court, and just practice.
OK, gang, the sign-up links are below. Hope to see you on the court soon. Peace, Prosperity, and Pickleball
