The Pickle Jar
March 11-15
Looking ahead at the weather for the coming week it seems March is doing its best to be chaotic. If they materialize there will be 3 very nice days in the middle of the week which has me scrambling to figure out just what I want to do. Pickleball is a given but it might be a great week to get the wheels of the bicycle rolling for the new year or to set out on another hike. I know we have some golfers, some tennis players and a couple of runners. What other sports or activities do we have out there when the weather gets good? With that rumbling around in your head, let's explore the Pickleverse.
C3 Sports will not offer pickleball on Friday due to a basketball tournament. Spoiler alert, it will be the same deal next Friday.
Backyard Pickleball? If you scroll down you can see that putting a pickleball floor in your home, garage, barn, driveway, or wherever has made it to home shows. This was 1 of 2 vendors I saw offering the playcourt tiles at the Centre County home show. Pickleball is EVERYWHERE!
The Centre should settle back into a more normal routine with the completion of Spring Break and the kiddos back in school.
Safety note: Please remember that if a ball rolls onto your court from another court don't just kick, roll, or toss it back in the direction it came from. Your safe choices are to toss it to someone who is expecting it, put it in your pocket/pouch or ground it against the net or wall.
Pickleball 101: As of this post, there are 4 spots are remaining for Pickleball 101 on Tuesday the 12th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at The Centre.
Tip Of The Week: Let's make contact. Almost universally the best contact you can make with the ball is just out in front of you. If you swing too early or let the ball get behind you the result will most likely be going to spray the ball out of bounds. If you know how to "check your vector Victor" (one of my favorite movie quotes) you might be able to compensate by breaking your wrist but that takes a lot of practice to be able to do it reliably. Work this week in having a consistent solid contact point and when the errant ball happens stop and think about where was the contact point at impact.
Bonus: You will win more games from their mistakes than your winners. Be patient, build the point, wait for the best time to pounce.
Remember to "spring ahead" tonight and I hope to see you on the court, or bike trail, or mountainside this week. The signups are below.
