The Pickle Jar
January 5 - 9
January 5 - 9
Happy 2026 to all! Did anyone make any pickleball related New Year resolutions? I actually did make one or perhaps an anti-pickleball resolution. With the weather definitely working against anything close to biking weather, pickleball has been almost exclusively my sole source of exercise. I have noticed my body is moving into the phase of aging where muscle tone begins to diminish so to address that, I am going to take advantage of my Silver Sneakers membership and hit the gym for a little cardio but focusing more on building strength up again. I will still be around the pickleball court about 3 days a week and then supplement with strength training 2 - 3 days a week. The key will be keeping it fresh and not let it become too routine that I get bored and taper off. It you made any resolutions, good luck to you and may 2026 be a year of health, happiness, and prosperity. Let's climb up into our rocket ship and explore the Pickleverse. 4-3-2-1
Nittany Valley Sports Centre: Canines and picklballers peacefully coexisted for 3 days this past week. At times it seemed like the dogs were more of a distraction to pickleball with players waiting to rotate in enjoyed watching the furry athletes go through their paces. I loved watching an Australian cattle dog just rip through the agility course. The paddle sorter was repaired and was used a bit, I hope to continue to improve it a bit more in the future. The Centre will be returning to 8 courts max this week. Many thanks to Sean who checks in on the SignUpGenius to get an idea of how many courts will be needed and tries to have things ready to go when players arrive. Additionally, a BIG thank you to Michael and Sean for coming up with the idea of having pickleball on New Year's Day and then also making it free. Which reminds me, with the new year the session price is now $9 per 2 hour session on weekday play. Hopefully you were able to stock up on some credits in 2025.
C3 Sports: C3's SignUpGenius is listed at the bottom of the page. I have posted it to help a few loyal groups manage play at the facility. The facility does not respond to my emails for information about their schedule. I would strongly suggest contacting the facility if you have questions about availability. There number is (814) 234-0711 EXT 402).
DITNY 2026: Registration has closed and there are 124 registered players. Centre County is well represented in the tournament. The games begin January 10, 2026 and conclude on January 11, 2026.
Westmont Hockey Pickleball Tournament: On January 17 and 18 the Westmont Hockey team is holding a fundraiser pickleball tournament in Johnstown at the Westmont High School. For more information or to register contact Lisa Miller at (814) 659-9229. There is also an information flyer on the Tournaments page..
That's all for now. Have a great week and I hope to see you on the court soon. Peace.
